About us

The WeOcean workshop is the result of a sustained collaborative effort among researchers, institutions and networks committed to advancing a holistic understanding of the Ocean and its role as the central component of the Earth’s living system.

This initiative brings together expertise from ocean sciences, philosophy, social sciences and the arts, and is rooted in the conviction that a truly interdisciplinary dialogue is essential to address the environmental and social challenges of our time.

Our Vision
The institutions and networks behind WeOcean share a common conviction: that the most pressing challenges facing the Ocean and the planet cannot be addressed through disciplinary silos alone. By bringing together Earth scientists, social scientists, philosophers, artists, legal scholars and policy practitioners, we seek to cultivate a genuinely expanded understanding of what it means to be part of the living Earth. Our aspiration is that the ideas, connections and commitments emerging from this workshop will contribute to a renewed sense of belonging to the Ocean – one that is intellectually rigorous, emotionally resonant and socially transformative.
